I assume you mean archivelog ? Check Changing the Database Archiving Mode.

Data Archiving Means To take the Backup of History Tables in a External Device such as Tape with the same layout.

Not really sure what you mean by "same layout", but one method to archive data is to use EXPORT. You could dump the data to disk and then copy to tape.
