I am trying to execute sqlplus <username>/<password>
from unix prompt i am getting the following

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production on Mon Mar 12 09:54:27 2007

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory


Please assist in this.

It seems that Oracle database isn't up.

But i can able to connect using toad and command prompt on windows !!

Is the environment set on the unix machine ?
(like $ORACLE_HOME $ORACLE_SID)

If not, export these parameters. I probably forgot a lot of the environment parameters, so this don't need to be the only paramaters to set.

i have given ORACLE_SID in small case, once i changed to UPPU one it is working.

Hi,
ORACLE_SID
yes , *nix is case sensitive ( not sure) but we can set lower case in windows platform.
but we should always set upper case in oracle enviourment.
