Hello

I was trying to install an oracle patch on 10.2.0.2 on solaris 5.8 when i started to get these errors:

opatch lsinventory
Invoking OPatch 10.2.0.2.0

Oracle interim Patch Installer version 10.2.0.2.0
Copyright (c) 2005, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved..

Oracle Home : /u01/oracle10/product
Central Inventory : /u01/oracle8.1.7/product/oraInventory
from : /u01/oracle10/product/oraInst.loc
OPatch version : 10.2.0.2.0
OUI version : 10.2.0.2.0
OUI location : /u01/oracle10/product/oui
Log file location : /u01/oracle10/product/cfgtoollogs/opatch/opatch-2007_Jan_13_17-54-23-EST_Sat.log

LsInventory Session failed: OracleHomeInventory::createInventoryObj() gets a nul
l OiicStandardInventorySession object

OPatch failed with error code 72

then I noticed that the /u01/oracle8.1.7/product/oraInventory
is gone, has been removed and oraInstloc is also pointing to that directory which no longer is in place

oraInst.loc
inventory_loc=/u01/oracle8.1.7/product/oraInventory
inst_group=dba

how can this be fixed?

Thank you
Teresa

Welcome to the wonderful world of Oracle.
$ rm -rf /u01/*
& reinstall from scratch
If you can not restore the inventory from backups, you can no longer patch or upgrade the $ORACLE_HOME tree.
