hi

NO,i don't think you can use oracle 8i pfile in oracle 10g. bcoz many parameter from oracle 8i is desupported or many new introduce with oracle 10g.

and what is meaning exaclty some.
you can also choose upgrade option.
if database is small then use export or import option for you database.

hope this helps
taj

8i is in one machine and i am creating same structure in another machien,without any data.

so do you think i can use sample init template file that comes with 10g, with same settings from 8i pfile that i have now ?

Then, what does the database features / parameter settings has to do with that?
Just create a new empty 10g database.
Export the ddl / extract ddl (no data) from the 8i.
import into 10g.
As user52 already said, many parameters are made obsolete and you will endup with unwanted issues.
