It is better to ask ur DBA.
or What you know about ur database like ...
1.size
2.backup and recovery procedure.
3.database type OLTP or DSS
4.how many users.

If you'r new to oracle administration then first go through doc. and create test database for ur production database and testing on test database.

Create Test db from production.
simple used import or export utilities if database size is small.
or
use rman
or
user managed bkp.

and play with ur test db. or if any problem you face plz. concern with us.

Hope this Helps

As Starting you can go for this things.

Alert Monitoring( Its very important as most of the dba skip this you will really find what really happing in your database there)
I/O monitoring
mem usage
tablespace management
backup status

these are few things you can monitor initallay for most of the things you will be getting a lot of ready made scripts on web just give a search on google.
