Hi,

I've been charged with installing Oracle 9i, 10g R1, 10g R2 on a Linux server.

I've come up against some confusion and have scoured the web looking for a guide or best practice document but can't find what I am looking for.

I've installed 9i, then to install 10g I used the same "oracle" account but just look out the "ORACLE_HOME".
/mnt1/oracle/products/9.2.0
changed to
/mnt1/oracle/products/10.1.0/db_1

Do I need a separate user account for each version of Oracle I install please?

Thanks for any pointer, guidance, metalink recomendations.

Not essential.
All you need is a new ORACLE_HOME for every installation (same version or different versions).

Hello I'm running a 8i and a 9i on the same linux server. And indeed just change your oracle enviroment. So your Oracle Home and SID, and it better to work with a enviroment so your path variable is also changed.

3 versions on one server...good luck Smile

Solved. Thank you for your help.

I've just go and unhash out the line in my .bash_profile for the right ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID that I want to work with and then reload the profile with source ~/.bash_profile and it works a treat.
