Hi

I have some problem in SUN SERVER at billing section in which I'm not able to access the oracle database.
Pl. help me solving the following oracle error.

ORA-01033; Oracle Initialization or Shutdown in Progress.
ORA-01157; Cannot identify / lock data file 2 - see DBWR trace file
ORA-01110; data file 2; '/data_undo/poi/undotbs1.dbf'

I guess this problem must have been aroused because of abrupt power trip.

Regards

Your database cannot start as file /data_undo/poi/undotbs1.dbf is not available on the operating system. Check if you can see it. If you need to, restore it from backup.

I guess it is you who should know whether you perform database backup or not.

Littlefoot's right - if you're the DBA for this database, then it's your job to know that the backups have been taken.

If you don't have a backup, then I think you're in trouble.

The good news is that it looks like you've "only" lost your UNDO tablespace, so you may get away without losing any data.

If I were you, I'd get in touch with Metalink and raise a SR for this one - database recovery isn't something you want to do by yourself if your new to Oracle.

Database backup exists and my friend advised me to check it before restoring. So I'm planning to install Oracle in Sun Blade 150, which is Sun workstation. What is this metalink and how can I get help from them ?
