Is it possible that with Oracle 9i multiple instances of the databases can be open.

upto my understanding
one instance can be opened in Oracle 9i.
One Instance opens one database only.

It is the functionality of RAC (Real application cluster).
The database is shared a across multiple nodes. Each node will have it own instance. But Within the same node, a database can have only one instance.
