Hello Everyone
during the creation of the database ,we are using the parameter
maxinstances 2
as i have understood, it means two instances will mount the database.
does that mean there will be two SGA & two set of background processes in the same machine having Oracle server installed.
i fail to understand this.

can anyone help me in this regard.

anticipating UR great help

thanks in Advance.

Are you configuring Oracle RAC? If not then there is no need to specify this parameter while creating a database.

Quote:

The MAXINSTANCES parameter is optional and is primarily used for Real Application Clusters (RAC) environments

I have not tried this on my own but yes if you say maxinstances 2 then it does mean two SGA.

This parameter is the maximum number of instances that can mount the database when using RAC.

Since you don't use RAC, you will still only have one SGA.
