Hi All,
I have been asked by a company to review their Oracle database. The system is running on unix (AIX) on a RAID5 on a SAN. There are 150 datafiles associated with the database all of which are in a single filesystem. What are peoples views on this configuration.

regards

Alan.

It could be better. It could be worse.

RAID 10 (full striping + mirroring) is better than RAID 5.

Also, it would be better to use ASM or RAW Volumes than filesystems for your data files.

Hi Both,
Thanks for the information. Very interesting, sadly though my client seems reluctant to change.

cheers

Alan.

I have never heard anything except 'don't use RAID 5' from anyone.
