Hi,

I have Oracle 8 databases running on a Windows 2000 server. My question is, what's the correct procedure for stopping a database on a Windows 2000 server and starting it up again? Do I shutdown the database in SVRMGR30 then stop the Windows Services? Do I start the services again then startup the database in SVRMGR30?

Thanks in advance,

S.

Do either one.
Using SVRMGR is manual or you can script.
Using control panel/services can automated easily.

Hi, thanks for replying.

When shutting down a database in SVRMGR30 with the command....
SVRMGR>shutdown immediate;

I get....
Database Closed
Database Dismounted

Should I get the SVRMGR prompt after the database is closed down?

Should I then stop the services for that Oracle database or are they stopped by the Shutdown command?

Thanks in advance,

S.
