Hi,

I tried installing oracle 8.1.5 on a dual xeon (2.4ghz) ,with 2gb ram, server. The O.S. was win-2003. but everytime the installation got aborted while creating a database giving some virtual memory error (ORA-04301). saying "Can not allocate shared pool ....8500000 bytes" etc. we tried increasing the virtual memory size upto 4gb but it didn't work. Although Oracle 9i is getting installed on the same server. But for our package the vendor is asking for Oracle8i installation only.

Can anybody explain and guide for the above problem?

Thanks in advance!

Are you doing an official install?

8i has never been supported for Win2003.

And I'd consider 8.1.7 as 8.1.5 is not the most reliable release and it is desupported AFAIK.

Perhaps you could install a WinNT through VMWare?
