I am just a novice in oracle, I want to know the details regarding an instance.

Can a database can have multiple instances or an instance can have multiple databases.

Can a single oracle server has multiple databases and the instance of one database can access the other database.

Thanks

Hi,

There is a 1:1 relationship between an instance and a database. The only exception is when you use RAC (Real Application Clusters), an Oracle Database Option. With RAC you can have multiple instances on different nodes of a clustered system that use the same database (N:1).

Best regards.
