Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me (or reassure me) in the following:
We already have a sun sparc with SunOs 5.9, and with Oracle 9.2.0.4 installed. Now I must install a second product (it must be 8.1.7 due to the appliaction) on this same physical machine. I have not done such an install before. Are there any known serious pifalls in such an operation, or is it just a matter of setting the environment right, choosing a separate second ORACLE_HOME etc..?
I know that this is a very general question, but maybe someone is aware of possible serious problems.
The problem is also: I don't have a testmachine to try it myself :-(
Thanks !

in profilem, set these parameters different from 9i installation.

set new ORACLE_SID
set new ORACLE_HOME
set new ORACLE_BASE
let PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin

comment of all entries related to 9i installation
and you can continue your 8i instalation.
By end of installation you may be asked whether to overwrite the oratab information etc.
just say no ( or yes..according to your need)

Thanks, now I am much more confident in taking up this installation!
So there are no Operating System matters to worry about like the packages or revisionlevel of SunOs 5.9, which can now run 9.2.0.4, but needs no modification to run both DBMSses?
Thanks again for your help.
