Hi All,

In Oracle 8.1.7 nmi.log file I am getting the below message. I want to know how can I start tracing (I know some parameter in init.ora file, but what is that parameter) and what are the advantage and disadvantage of it.

Thanks

Manu

Tracing not turned on.
If you enable tracing , you can more information regarding the process that you are tracing.
tracing is a general method.
Enabling trace depends on your need.
FOr sql tracing you use sql*plus.
for sql*net ( like your case)
Look here

Here your root cause seems to be a protocol error.
Are you using bequeth protocol? (TCP/IP is widely used.)
The error is very generic and basic.

check your sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.
have a look here
search for TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error in this same site (www.orafaq.com)
or
google for TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
