Extended Support Fee Waived for Oracle Database 12.1 and 11.2 for Oracle E-Business Suite

Steven Chan - Wed, 2019-04-10 15:52

Oracle's Lifetime Support policy has three phases:  Premier Support, Extended Support, and Sustaining Support.  For details about coverage during each phase, see:

You can purchase a support plan for your licensed products to obtain Premier Support.  There is an additional fee for Extended Support.

Due to the certification timing of Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle Database versions beyond 12.1, Oracle has waived Extended Support fees for Oracle Database 12.1 and 11.2 for Oracle Database licenses used for Oracle E-Business Suite through December 2020.

DSTv32 Timezone Patches Available for E-Business Suite 12.2 and 12.1

Steven Chan - Wed, 2019-04-03 10:59

The DSTv33 timezone upgrade is now available and certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 12.2 and 12.1. Note that DST patches are cumulative and therefore include all previous Oracle DST updates.

How Does Oracle E-Business Suite Work Across Timezones?

Periodically, many countries or regions change their timezone definitions. In addition, and more frequently, they may switch to or from Daylight Saving Time or Summer Time.

If your Oracle E-Business Suite environment is configured to support doing business across multiple timezones, you need to keep your timezone definition files up-to-date by applying patches as described in this article. This will ensure that the times transactions take place are recorded correctly, and thereby meet applicable business and legal requirements.

Is My Oracle E-Business Suite Environment Affected?

When a country or region changes its timezone definitions or DST rules, your Oracle E-Business Suite environment will require patching if either of the following is true:

  • Your EBS environment is located in the affected country or region.
  • Your EBS environment is located outside the affected country or region, but you conduct business or have customers or suppliers there.

The following are major additions or changes in the DSTv33 timezones definitions compared to the previous release:

  • Most of Chile now ends DST on the first Saturday in April (starting 6-Apr-19) and resumes DST in September.
  • Morocco switches to permanent +01 on 2018-10-27.
  • Volgograd moves from +03 to +04 on 2018-10-28.
  • Fiji ends DST 2019-01-13, not 2019-01-20.
  • Use of "PST" and "PDT" for Philippines time.
What Patches Do I Require?

The following MOS note identifies the various components in your Oracle E-Business Suite environment that may need DST patches:

What if I Do Not Apply the Relevant Patches?

If you do business with a country or region that has changed its timezone definitions, and record a transaction that occurs at the boundary between the “old” and the “new” time, then the transaction may be recorded incorrectly. Specifically, that transaction's timestamp may be out by an hour.

Getting Support for Java Plug-In While Transitioning to Java Web Start

Steven Chan - Thu, 2019-03-28 12:09

We recently provided guidance that we highly recommend all our Oracle E-Business Suite customers to migrate their Oracle E-Business Suite client tiers to use Java Web Start (JWS) without delay.

It's essential to note that as of March 2019, Java Web Start is the only certified version of Java for the Oracle E-Business Suite client tier that also comes under Premier or Extended Support for Java SE.

This raises the question of what support we will provide for Java Plug-In for customers as they transition to Java Web Start. The answer is in two parts:

  • Through to at least September 2020, Oracle plans to continue shipping the components required to launch Java applets on Internet Explorer 11 using Java Plug-in.
  • Oracle E-Business Suite Support will continue to accept service requests against issues found when using the Java Plug-in with EBS until September 2020.

Please note that above support schedule is contingent on Microsoft continuing to support the APIs required by the Java Plug-in with Internet Explorer until the dates specified.

We recently provided guidance that we highly recommend all our Oracle E-Business Suite customers to migrate their Oracle E-Business Suite client tiers to use Java Web Start (JWS) without delay.
